New scholarships funded by Thompson Family Foundation
The Affton Education Foundation has always focused on encouraging students to pursue degrees at four-year colleges and universities. However, recent studies have shown that large numbers of high school graduates are choosing alternate ways of continuing their education. Nationwide, many students are opting to attend junior college to complete their general education requirements before transferring to four-year institutions, while others are taking a vocational/technical school path.
Affton benefactors Bill (‘63) and Nancy (Beckeman ‘65) Thompson recognized these trends and identified the need for additional scholarship support. Through the Thompson Family Foundation, they have made a two-year donation commitment to fund a new scholarship initiative focusing on junior college and trade school attendance. The Continuation of College Degree Scholarship is designed to assist Affton High School graduates in continuing their education when transferring from junior/community college to an accredited four-year institution to seek a bachelor’s degree. The Technical Education Program Scholarship will help to fund students enrolling in career, technical and vocational programs. AEF has received applications for both programs from qualifying Affton students, and the scholarship recipients will be announced at the upcoming Senior Awards & Decision Day in May.
AEF is proud to be able to provide even more opportunities for Affton students. Many thanks to the Thompson Family Foundation for their generous support in this effort.
